Dinner with Jesus!

Bible.com

This just in from Wycliffe USA:

Marketing has created a new, 7-day YouVersion devotional called “Dinner with Jesus” to go along with our quarterly theme, Feasting on Scripture.

Jesus often used meals to engage with people and teach important lessons. And he continues to call us to his table to feast on who he is and learn more about him through his Word. Jesus’ example provides an opportunity to invite friends, outcasts and even enemies to know God’s story of love and salvation.

You can find “Dinner with Jesus” by searching the YouVersion app or accessing the devotional online at Bible.com. Be sure to share the devotional with your family and friends too!

Worth VS Time/Effort/Finances

Language NamesIn the 27 plus years that we have worked for Wycliffe Bible Translators (WBT), we have never heard the phrase “They are not worth it”.

When we joined WBT in 1990, we shared that over 2000 Bibles still needed translating. That number has crept up and down over the years.

Up? How can that be? As language workers toil alongside nationals, they often find that languages that they previously thought were similar to another language, have big enough differences in their thoughts and meaning so that they need their own translation. What good is giving them a Bible when they are no closer to understanding it than before? So sometimes translation needs go up.

Down? Well, we expect the numbers to go down as many people work hard at giving God’s words in their own heart language and there are new publications like the 27 listed above.

Why do we care? Because God’s words are vibrant and living and give information about a God who wants to be in relationship with people.

I want everyone to have what I have every day: A Bible I can read or listen to in my own language.

This morning I wrote this verse to a dear friend who is struggling with some issues:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

What a verse of HOPE! I could share that because we both know English.

We just celebrated some recent Bible Translations. Look at the image above. Check out how many speakers are in the Abadi language. Then check out how many are in the Yemba language. Big difference, yes?

Both need God’s words. They are both worth the time, effort and financial input to make it happen.

Won’t it be great to meet people from both languages groups one day in heaven? You are making this possible! Thank you!

This is OUR work…

Kasua Bible Dedication

I love watching videos of the “end” product: people receiving God’s Word in their own mother tongue.

Of course, it’s not the end…it’s the beginning of them receiving the very words of God in a way that they can understand it and then having the choice to be in relationship with God.

Click here to see the Kasua people of Papua New Guinea getting the Bible in their own language. If you are in a rush, fast forward to the testimony of their co-translator around 3.50 minutes. Beautiful!!

This is our work, my partners!! Thank you again!

No…Thank YOU!!!

Every time we write our thank you notes, we pray and praise over the person that we are writing to. So it was a delight to receive this email from one of our dear supporters, a woman who has partnered with us for 30 years!

I’ve gotten many thank-you notes from you over the years, so I thought, with the suggestion of my Daily Bread devotional, that my thanks to you are long overdue.

Paul said in his letter to the Philippians, “I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you because your faith has been reported all over the world.”

So I want to thank you and Ken for your deep faith and diligence which brings the message of Jesus Christ to so many people around the world.

I love you and ask God to continue to bless you, which of course he will.

As I recently studied the Gifts that God has given each of us, I can’t help but give praise to God for how each of you have used your gifts for the kingdom of God. Look what it says in I Peter 4:10-11:

Each of you should use whatever gift you have…..so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ!

Thank you for your continued prayers and support toward the mission of Bible Translation.

When did you last rush towards your Bible?

Baka NT dedication - readers

Reading immediately after receiving the New Testament in their own language!

Sudan, Africa has had a rough history. Coups, civil war, terrorism, famine and other turmoils have rocked its people.

But in spite of these difficulties, many people have worked on a Bible Translation for the Baka people over the last 30 years. One such person was Rev. Bennett Marona. Invited to help translate the Bible into his mother tongue, it became a priority for him. He worked as a pastor and a translator at different times.

When war came to his village, he like thousands of other people, carried their children to what was then the country of Zaire. They walked for 7 days. Children died, people became ill, and they were hungry and thirsty.

But even while living in a refugee camp, Bible Translation continued!! What tenacity for this job!!

“I continued in this work because I wanted the Baka to hear God’s voice with their own ears, “ says Rev. Marona.

In the Fall of 2017, the Baka New Testament was finally dedicated!

At the ceremony to celebrate, Rev. Marona reported, “God is not far from us now….He is not a foreigner.”

As the boxes of New Testaments were opened at its dedication, people rushed to the books, not wanting to wait another minute to start reading!! They immediately opened their Bibles and started reading in their own language!

When was the last time I rushed to my Bible?

Your support of Bible Translation has made this possible. Praise God with us today!
