2033 is just 15 years away!

So who cares about 2033? Up until a few minutes ago, I didn’t, but then I read these statistics:

95% of the global population will have access to a Full Bible

(languages with greater than 500,000 speakers)

99.9% of the global population will have access to a New Testament

(languages with greater than 5,000 speakers and less than 500,000 speakers)

100% of the world’s population will have access to at least some portion of Scripture

(portion estimated at 25 chapters in languages with less than 5000 speakers)

These numbers were provided by our partners at Every Tribe Every Nation.This organization was started by 10 leading business people (including Hobby Lobby). They have come together to provide strategic leadership and funding to advance the Gospel.

In the meantime, there is work to be done. 1900 languages still have no translation under way.

What could you personally do to help remedy this? Ideas include the normal ones like prayer and finances, but perhaps God is moving in your heart to go somewhere either on a short term or long term basis. Every job, profession or skill is needed!

Serving the Servants

Anne works part-time at the Waxhaw Creek Apartments, an independent living facility run by Wycliffe Bible Translators for retirees, here in North Carolina. This Friday our monthly dinner was held along with a Town Meeting. Items discussed were “Scams targeting the elderly”, “soap scum” as well as introducing our new maintenance manager, Bob Seavey.

Bob and Barb Seavey have been members of Wycliffe for 38 years, serving many of them in Peru. Barb was born in Peru and her parents were Wycliffe missionaries. After Barb’s father died, her mother came to live at the apartments until her own death. So it is a blessing to both Bob and Anne to serve this long line of folk who have served God all over the world.

Many of them continue to serve as pictured above! Thank you for being a part of this line of servers: You serve us with your prayers and financial gifts and then we serve others, some who continue to serve and some who are retired.

We love you all!

Northern Thai New Testament dedication in Thailand on Feb. 2, 2018:
- Population: 6,000,000.
- Published in one volume but with parallel Thai and ancient Lanna scripts.
- Available in print, on “Audio Bible” MP3 players and a free smartphone app.
Menya New Testament dedication in Papua New Guinea on Feb. 23, 2018:
- Population: 25,000.
- 400 MegaVoice units with the recorded New Testament were also available for sale.
- A two-week Scripture application and leadership training course followed the dedication, with 52 participants.

Kasua Bible Dedication

I love watching videos of the “end” product: people receiving God’s Word in their own mother tongue.

Of course, it’s not the end…it’s the beginning of them receiving the very words of God in a way that they can understand it and then having the choice to be in relationship with God.

No…Thank YOU!!!

Every time we write our thank you notes, we pray and praise over the person that we are writing to. So it was a delight to receive this email from one of our dear supporters, a woman who has partnered with us for 30 years!

I’ve gotten many thank-you notes from you over the years, so I thought, with the suggestion of my Daily Bread devotional, that my thanks to you are long overdue.

Paul said in his letter to the Philippians, “I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you because your faith has been reported all over the world.”

So I want to thank you and Ken for your deep faith and diligence which brings the message of Jesus Christ to so many people around the world.

I love you and ask God to continue to bless you, which of course he will.

As I recently studied the Gifts that God has given each of us, I can’t help but give praise to God for how each of you have used your gifts for the kingdom of God. Look what it says in I Peter 4:10-11:

Each of you should use whatever gift you have…..so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ!

Thank you for your continued prayers and support toward the mission of Bible Translation.

When did you last rush towards your Bible?

Reading immediately after receiving the New Testament in their own language!

Sudan, Africa has had a rough history. Coups, civil war, terrorism, famine and other turmoils have rocked its people.

But in spite of these difficulties, many people have worked on a Bible Translation for the Baka people over the last 30 years. One such person was Rev. Bennett Marona. Invited to help translate the Bible into his mother tongue, it became a priority for him. He worked as a pastor and a translator at different times.

When war came to his village, he like thousands of other people, carried their children to what was then the country of Zaire. They walked for 7 days. Children died, people became ill, and they were hungry and thirsty.

But even while living in a refugee camp, Bible Translation continued!! What tenacity for this job!!

“I continued in this work because I wanted the Baka to hear God’s voice with their own ears, “ says Rev. Marona.

In the Fall of 2017, the Baka New Testament was finally dedicated!

At the ceremony to celebrate, Rev. Marona reported, “God is not far from us now….He is not a foreigner.”

As the boxes of New Testaments were opened at its dedication, people rushed to the books, not wanting to wait another minute to start reading!! They immediately opened their Bibles and started reading in their own language!

When was the last time I rushed to my Bible?

The Finish Line

There is nothing better than seeing the finish line at the end of a race, a project or even a road trip. You’ve reached your goal! Yay!

At Wycliffe, we have about 300 Bible Translation projects that are nearing their finish line too. Within three years they will have reached their goals for getting God’s word into the hands and ears of those who need it and are waiting for it!

Jaars airplane just waiting to be washed!

A job was posted this past week at Jaars. Jaars is a non-profit ministry associated with Wycliffe Bible Translators and SIL. They aid in finding solutions in transportation, technology, media and training for the Bible Translation task.

There are many jobs at Jaars. Pilots, Vernacular media trainers, nurses, drivers and food service to name a few. But the recent job posting caught my eye.

“Airplane Washer”

At first I thought it was a cute joke. They do have airplanes at Jaars. Because we live only 1.5 miles from their campus we hear and see small aircraft taking off and landing there all the time. But do they need to be washed down?

Apparently, they do.

Brief Description:

This employee will work under the Aviation Manager and Flight Coordinator at the JAARS Center located south of Waxhaw, N.C. This is a part-time, “as needed”, position.

Major Job Responsibilities:

Washing airplanes

Qualifications:

Demonstrate a deep and growing walk with the Lord Jesus that includes your personal growth and the ability to support others in their spiritual growth.
Embrace the vision, mission and core values of JAARS, and help us live them effectively across all facets of the organization.
Must view this position as a ministry.
Must be 17 years of age or older.
Must be dependable, detailed, careful and have the ability to follow instructions well.
Be available when aircraft are available to be washed.

When we share with groups, we usually tell people that God can use anyone with any of their gifts in the Bible Translation Task.

This kind of proves it.
