Check out this Celebration!

JAARS, our partner in the Bible translation task, just had a celebration of one of the most recent Bibles being dedicated. Rejoice with us by clicking on this video link and selecting the 2022 Scripture Celebration at JAARS video.

You can’t help but smile and tear up as you see the joy in the faces of people holding God’s Words in their heart language!

Thank you for your part in making the reality of getting God’s precious Word into the hands and hearts of Bibleless people of the world! Because of you, our brothers and sisters in Christ all around the world are now blessed to have His Word in their mother tongue, the language that speaks to their hearts, just like we do.

Let’s celebrate together!

Watch this Video and Rejoice

Each Fall, Wycliffe Bible Translators and our partners set aside a day to celebrate the newly translated Bibles that have been dedicated the previous year. Watching the videos of the dedications always brings me to tears as I watch people receiving the very words of God in their Mother Tongue for the first time. They are dancing, shouting and crying as they receive their Bible. Do I do the same?

Because of your support, together we can dance with people from around the world who can understand “Immanuel, God with Us” for the first time this year! Click here to enjoy our partner JAARS video celebration.

Some Good News!

Jaars in Waxhaw, NC

Our partner organization, Jaars, has 4 days a year that they open up for a great touring experience for the whole family! You can also come daily for a tour in the morning, but Jaars Day is the best way to see their facilities.

Here are some of the things you can do that day:

  • Watch a pilot demonstrate the precision and skill needed to operate a mission airplane or helicopter overseas.

  • Come see how people get Internet in the rainforest. Record your voice into the JESUS film.

  •  Learn how God’s Word is changing lives, how Internet access helps translation work, and much more.

  • Chat with JAARS people on our campus. They’re pilots, software developers, boat captains, trainers, translators, and more—people who’ve served all over the world. And they all have stories.

  • Hop into a missionary plane or helicopter. Or pile into a four-wheel-drive vehicle and enjoy our off-road course. Either way, you’ll get a taste of how Bible translators reach remote villages. Come early!  Rides in both aircraft and the vehicle course are limited, and tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. (waiver required)

  • Visit our museums to take a close look at the heart of our work: language, culture, and Bible translation. Come trace the history of writing. Or learn the importance of minority languages, and how former Mexican President Lázaro Cárdenas made a difference. Check out the newest exhibit about Scripture Celebration.

  • Shop at our gift shop and take home a souvenir of your day at JAARS. Your gift shop purchase helps JAARS make Bible translation possibleCome June 9, 2018 from 9am-4pm!

Well, someone has to do it….

Jaars airplane just waiting to be washed!

A job was posted this past week at Jaars. Jaars is a non-profit ministry associated with Wycliffe Bible Translators and SIL. They aid in finding solutions in transportation, technology, media and training for the Bible Translation task.

There are many jobs at Jaars. Pilots, Vernacular media trainers, nurses, drivers and food service to name a few. But the recent job posting caught my eye.

“Airplane Washer”

At first I thought it was a cute joke. They do have airplanes at Jaars. Because we live only 1.5 miles from their campus we hear and see small aircraft taking off and landing there all the time. But do they need to be washed down?

Apparently, they do.

Brief Description:

This employee will work under the Aviation Manager and Flight Coordinator at the JAARS Center located south of Waxhaw, N.C. This is a part-time, “as needed”, position.

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Washing airplanes

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate a deep and growing walk with the Lord Jesus that includes your personal growth and the ability to support others in their spiritual growth.

  • Embrace the vision, mission and core values of JAARS, and help us live them effectively across all facets of the organization.

  • Must view this position as a ministry.

  • Must be 17 years of age or older.

  • Must be dependable, detailed, careful and have the ability to follow instructions well.

  • Be available when aircraft are available to be washed.

When we share with groups, we usually tell people that God can use anyone with any of their gifts in the Bible Translation Task.

This kind of proves it.

Let me know if you’d like to apply for the job.

Safe with Scorpions

Ken has arrived in Jos, Nigeria once again. I’m always grateful to get a text message or email to let me know he is at his final destination. Today, I got a phone call for Mother’s Day! I love hearing his voice.

Tomorrow Ken and a group of others from Wycliffe Bible Translators partner, Jaars, whose campus is in our town of Waxhaw, NC, will start sharing the duties of teaching and doing tech support for a group of Nigerian Bible Translators. Most will stay for three weeks but Ken’s work will be one week long.

Thanks for praying. He’s doing something new this trip. Although he’s studied the material it’s always nerve-wracking to do work on someone else’s data. He’d hate to lose any of their hard work!

Scorpion!

Scorpion!

P. S. This scorpion was found in the kitchen of the guesthouse he’s staying in. We’re not used to seeing those kinds of insects on the east coast of the USA!

Follow the plane!

Bruce makes some purchases for his long trip.

Due to the high cost and scarce availability of Avgas (Aviation Gas) in Cameroon, Africa, some of the airplanes that missionaries use are being upgraded to a jet fuel burning turbine aircraft. This type of gas is more available in this country. Yesterday, JAARS pilots Bruce Powell and Tom Beekman began the 4 day ferry flight of a Cessna 207 across the Atlantic to Cameroon. Bruce is the father of some of Christine’s high school friends and Tom served as a pilot with us in Indonesia for many years.

You can track this flight as it goes across the world!  Will you please pray for these two men and their families? It is a long trip!  You can follow them on their journey by going to www.jaars.org, or to the following link:
